This portrait of my mother is part of the “Hindsight” project by Booooooom, a photography project featuring portraits of people captured in a moment of reflection. Photographers ask their subjects to answer the following question:
“Knowing what you know now, what’s one piece of advice you would give to your younger self?”
My mother: “To compromise but not to settle. And knowing the difference. That compromising is good and essential for harmony, and settling is lethal for the self.”

This year the COVID-19 is all around us. I could not help but wonder how Ramadan looks like this year. Is there any difference? How does it feel and look? Since there are contact restrictions in place, I planned of documenting the evening dinners (iftar) through video calls. I decided to ask around my friends from all over the world, who are devoted muslims. From Berlin to Bangladesh, from India to the UK.

Sa Pa, a mountainous area in Northern Vietnam, is home to some of the officially recognized 54 ethnic minority tribes. It is the center of tribal culture: the H’mong, Red Dao, Tay tribe, Giay, Muong, Thai, Hoa, and the Xa Pho tribes call it their home. The Hmong ethnic minority form the majority of Sa Pa population. They originally came from China 300 years ago.

Much of the activities are centered at the An Hoi Bridge and along the banks of the Hoai River.
