About Me

Born and raised in Berlin to Turkish parents I grew up in a bilingual and multicultural environment. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration, before moving to New York at the age of 23 and working there as a Senior Project Manager. While employed full-time, I quickly realized that I felt unchallenged in my capabilities and unchecked in my mind and spirit. To compensate for this void I used photography as an outlet. Parallel to the full-time job I attended evening classes in the basics of photography at the School of Visual Arts (SVA).

In January 2016 I started working as a part-time product photographer and social media content creator for the premium bag company Wool & Oak.

In October 2016 I did a variety of lifestyle photographs for the high-profile commercial property 40 Tenth Avenue, located adjacent to the Highline in New York City and designed by award-winning architect Jeanne Gang. The promotional pitch by the Creative Agency Neoscape, including my pictures, was the winner of a Silver Indigo Award in the category of integrated graphic design.

In December 2016, I produced, created, and edited the corporate headshots of every staff member at the German American Chamber of Commerce New York.

Then in 2017, after seven years I left a successful corporate career in HR and marketing to travel extensively, challenge my horizons and expand my consciousness. This led me to embark on a five-month solo journey across Southeast Asia that influenced my image-making greatly. Traveling became a way of checking in with my presence. I keenly observed and documented customs and traditions, faith and spirituality, and lifestyles. Every aspect of “identity” sparked my interest: Food, clothes, traditions, customs, faith and psychology, nations, location, gender roles, society, and everyday life. As a photographer, who grew up in a multicultural environment and whose course of life has led her to many different countries, I realized that I do not have a strong single national identity. Home is not a place or a flag for me, it is people. An unstoppable curiosity drives me to understand labels and their social construct.

With my photography, I try to create space for diverse stories without prominently defining them as such, making them exist, without elevating the subjects to superheroes or villains. I want to allow us to be human, fundamentally flawed or blessed, and explore the nuance of the fleeting human experience, honestly and undefined. Discovering that every corner hides some poetic, romantic, nostalgic, or brutal scene I came to understand that everyday life is a movie worth to be seen. And that if I observe closely where my eyes wander, I’ll find a bit of myself. While my worldview continually evolves, my photography evolves as well.

Today I am based out of Berlin and Antalya. My work includes assignments for the German magazine renk., a magazine focusing on People of Color, especially the German-Turkish community, covering topics such as diversity, culture, and art. I also accepted commissioned work from a German property company, for which I documented abandoned building complexes from the pre-Second World War era that housed the army. I freelanced for the travel agency GetYourGuide, where I documented historical and cultural highlights and activities in Türkiye. Today, additional to my photography I work part-time as an executive assistant at the photography museum Fotografiska Berlin which we opened in September 2023.

My images have been exhibited at the International Center of Photography in New York and at Galerie Huit in Arles, France alongside Les Rencontres de la photographie d'Arles. I have also been published in National Geographic Your Shot, MoMa, PhotoVogue, EyeEm, Photopia Hamburg, Royal Photographic Society, Booooooom, Lucie Foundation, Der Greif, and the British Journal of Photography.
