Despite the fact that we had to get up at 7am in Bangkok, my best friends Viki and I were ecstatic about heading to Siem Reap, Cambodia. To save some money we decided to take the bus. It sounded like a good idea: only eight hours, free wifi on the bus, snacks, drinks, and all that for less than $15. That our hostel recommended this bus company gave us the assurance that we are in good hands. Can you hear a 'but' coming up? But, indeed.

The year 2017 was slowly but surely coming to an end and it was about time to make some Christmas plans. Me and the travel fam decided to rent an Airbnb villa on Kho Samui. Finally an opportunity to cook for ourselves, finally a comfortable bed, showers (proper water pressure!) and as a icing on the cake: a pool just for ourselves...high five, life!

Krabi was actually not even on my travel radar. But I finally wanted to see the beach and thanks to Seth, one of the amazing travelers I met, I decided to fly down to the south and check out this little coastal town. It is known for its many offshore islands, which you reach through water taxis or ferries.

As I was thinking about my next destination after Bangkok, I decided to listen to fellow wanderers and see what they recommend or where they've been up to. The consensus was that the next sensible stop should be Chiang Mai, a city in mountainous northern Thailand, a blissfully calm and laid-back place to relax and recharge your batteries.

Here I am now.

Two and a half months into my travels. And I can report not only that this was one of my best decision of my life, but also a wonderful journey so far. I saw fascinating temples and beaches, met beautiful and kind locals and fellow travelers, and experienced stunning places. From day one I lost all doubts about my endeavor. 

Well done is better than well said. So after I said I would go and see places, I actually did do so. My first little road trip was throughout the Southwest of Turkey, making a pitstop in my Mom's hometown and finishing off in Central Anatolia before returning to Antalya.
